The Seacoast Artist Association celebrated it’s 28th year awarding students scholarships to financially assist those talented student artists who are planning to continue their education in the area of the visual arts.
This year, there were 18 submissions from local high schools and these were judged by Bill Childs, Barbara Cowan and Pat Corbin. Judging was difficult and close and six students tied for three top awards.
As the SAA Featured Artist for June/July, Renee Giffroy from Rye, New Hampshire will be displaying a unique photographic perspective of the images captured from the hulls of boats. “Boatscapes” is a colorful celebration of the beauty that can found in the mundane. Through her photographic eye, Giffroy takes what is often overlooked and transforms it into extraordinary pieces of art.
Attend the artist reception on Saturday June 11, 2016 from 1-3 pm at the SAA gallery. Refreshments will be served.

“Beachfront Berries” by Bill Moore (L) and “Through Space and Time” by Cheri Christenson
Yet another show that has exceeded expectations! “The Eye of the Beholder” boasts 35 pieces from painters and photographers who accepted this challenge and worked together to produce two interpretations of the same subject. (the odd number is the result of a fabulous three generation collaboration!) This was another extremely hard to judge show but chosen as “Best of Show” are Cheri Christenson and her watercolor “Through Space and Time” interpretation of Bill Moore’s photograph, “Beachfront Berries”. Congratulations!
The reception for this show is Friday May 6th from 4-7, which is also the kick-off to the summer’s First Friday Events in Exeter, so you will want to be in town for this. Hope to see you there.
