The Seacoast Artist Association Gallery and Shop is participating in NH Open Doors, a New Hampshire touring and shopping event that is happening on Saturday, November 4th, and Sunday, November 5th. During this weekend, artists, craftspeople, farms, retail shops and other businesses in the seacoast and throughout the state are opening their doors and featuring special activities for all ages, including craft demonstrations, food samplings, special sales, and more. Fall is a great time of year to tour New Hampshire’s scenic highways and country roads, and to shop (tax-free) for New Hampshire-made gifts.
A Monotype demonstration will be held on Saturday, Nov 4th, 10:00 to 2:00 pm at the SAA Gallery, 130 Water St., Exeter, NH.
What is a Monotype?
Monotype is an intriguing hybrid among printing techniques. It is neither a print nor a painting, but a unique combination of both. The method is named because it is one image (mono), painted or drawn with printer’s ink directly on a plate and then transferred to paper. The printing of an image from a clean, un-worked surface results in a quality that is open and free which easily allows innovation. The monotype is a singular image and cannot be replicated.
by Gerry Willging
Sunday April 9th from 1-3 PM North Hampton artist Gerry Willging will be offering a demo in the SAA gallery
on “Abstract Non-objective Mixed Media Painting on Canvas and Paper”. During this demonstration Gerry will show and explain her process of how to start an abstract painting with mixed media, including watercolor, collage, and acrylic, using the principals of design, composition, and values, which is one of the most important elements to hold a painting together.
Gerry will have examples of starts, middle, and finished paintings, explaining her layering process. She will also discuss juried shows and have a question and answer period. Visit her website at www.gerrywillgingdesigns.net. Gerry will begin offering classes.

by Kevin Talbot
NOVEMBER 13, 2:00 to 4:00: Nature Photographer Kevin Talbot will be showing his amazing loon photos upstairs in the old Exeter Town Hall, 9 Front Street, just around the corner from the SAA Gallery. Elevator available at the side entrance.
“Choosing just 20 or so to show from the thousands of photos I took over a four month period last summer and fall has been a daunting task, but I hope those who travel to Exeter to see this presentation will enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them!”
After an informative slide show and talk about Loons and their behavior, Talbot will give a short presentation in which he shows 20 slides and talks about each slide for 20 seconds. This is known as Pecha-Kucha style, a Japanese word for “Chit-Chat”. This style was invented to keep presentations short and to the point and has become quite popular around the world. We hope you can join us for this reception!
This event is open to the public and free to SAA members. Donations appreciated by non-members.
