A monotype is an intriguing hybrid among printing techniques. It is neither a print nor a painting, but a unique combination of both. The method is named because it is one image (mono), painted or drawn with printer’s ink directly on a plate and then transferred to paper. The printing of an image from a clean, unworked surface results in a quality that is open and free which easily allows innovation. The monotype is a singular image and cannot be replicated.

The demonstration on Sunday May 8th, given by SAA member artist Annick Bouvron-Gromek, will be followed by a one-day workshop on Saturday May 14th. The demonstration will be at the SAA gallery. The workshop will be held at the artist’s studio at 25 Forest Street, Exeter, NH 03833. The workshop is pen to 4 participants at a time. If the demand requires it, we will do another workshop on May 21st. The workshop runs 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The cost is $75 and will include supplies. If you are interested in participating in the workshop please contact the artist directly for more details at or 603-583-5293.
