Class will be held at Seacoast Artists Association
130 Water Street, Exeter, NH | (603) 778-8856
This is a drawing class for those of you who would like to learn the secrets of this wonderful medium, and those of you who may have some experience but want to know more. This class will teach you the difference between vine charcoal and compressed black and white charcoal. Each class will start with seeing samples of art created with charcoal and I will teach you various techniques, including how to make different marks: linear or side strokes; ways to blend white and black charcoals on various supports; and techniques. Charcoals are very versatile and you can create simple or complex drawings.
What to bring: Charcoal set with compressed charcoal, charcoal pencils in black and white, vine charcoal, 2 kneaded erasers, 9 x 12 newsprint pad, 9 x 12 charcoal paper pad in variety of colors or plain white, fixative spray, assorted sized paper stumps, pencil sharpener. I have created a Wishlist on www.dickblick.com if you would like to order online. Please email me and I will send you a link to it, and you can see and/or purchase art supplies there.
Also bring newspaper for under your work each week, paper towels, plain white paper for under your wrist, a 2B drawing pencil, wax paper, masking tape, drawing board made from one sheet of foam core cut in half and taped on 3 sides (Dollar Store foamcore is fine). This is lightweight and you can carry your finished work home in it.
You may want to wear clothing you do not mind getting dirty.
