View art works by Barabara London in her Body of Work exhibition at the SAA gallery in Exeter, NH during the month of November.
Barbara London is a jazz musician and artist. Her watercolors and mixed media artwork will be on exhibit at SAA for the month of November. In 2005 Barbara left nearly 25 years in college music education and administration to focus on her artwork and composition. Her involvement with the Abstract Artists Group of New England and her colleagues at SAA have inspired her to further develop her exploratory approach to painting by experimenting with color, subjects, texture, and technique.
Barbara writes: “Art in any form for me means self-expression, telling a story the way I see it or an emotion the way I feel it. I like the process of rendering what I imagine. The past few years I have transitioned from a representational approach to increasingly abstract and experimental work. I take an improvisatory approach to painting, similar to playing jazz. I like to see where a particular motif will take me. I envision an idea or form but once begun, the work takes on a life of its own. The adventure with its twists and turns is part of the journey.
I draw from a range of thematic material such as fauna and flora, land and water, horizons, the cosmos, dreamscapes, and cellular matter (from my science studies). The style and mood varies also, from the traditional and serious, to playful or humorous stick drawings, to semi-abstract paintings of performers and abstractions of seasons or emotions.”
In addition to framed paintings, Barbara will have unframed works, several at reduced prices for this special “Body of Work” show.
