“Sunlight on the Seacoast”, watercolors by Kimberly Cooper, from Stratham, NH.

Attend the artist reception for Kimberly Cooper, Stratham, on Friday, February 1 from time (4 to 7 pm at the Seacoast Artist Association gallery, 130 Water Street, Exeter.

As the artist featured in February Cooper will be displaying works in watercolor that inspired by living in and exploring the seacoast region. Refreshments will be served.

Cooper’s paintings are inspired by her favorite sites from her life exploring and living in the seacoast region. The genesis for her work starts from plein air sketches, as well as her own reference photography of the scene or subjects.

When asked about her inspiration for the series she said I always found it interesting how people bring all these loud, colorful umbrellas, chairs, kites, towels and other brightly colored items each day to the shore. The configurations change with the tide, each making unique compositions against the natural landscape. I love to capture these scenes in watercolor because I feel the white of the paper lends a vibrancy to a sunny day that can’t be reproduced in any other medium.

Although she works in many Medias, her favorite is watercolor on paper. “I favor watercolor because it forces you to think ahead, to act in the moment, and not overwork it,” said Cooper. “Watercolor is not a very forgiving medium and is easy to overwork but it has a wonderful luminous quality when you get it right.”

Originally from New York, Cooper now lives and works in New Hampshire. She has a BFA in fine art as well as Master’s degree in computer graphic design from RIT. Cooper is an award winning artist with a background in photography, illustration and design.
