About Our Theme Shows

Push yourselves out of your comfort zones and try something new for any or all of our themed challenges. Take on a new subject, or an old one in a new way. It’s all about the creative process and having fun! Theme shows are open to members and non-members alike.

All work must be framed in a professional manner complete with a wire hanger, sized up to 16” x 20” INCLUDING FRAME, and properly labeled on the back with artist, title, medium, and price. For a more consistent appearance on the wall, we recommend frames of brown, black, gold, or silver.

All judged shows take into consideration many different factors when awarding Best in Show. These factors include, but are not limited to: originality, technique in the specific medium of the piece, presentation, subject matter, design, relevance to the stated theme and whether the piece is an original piece of art. Keep in mind that, for non-photography entries, reproductions such as giclée prints, prints that are not numbered (and are not hand pulled) and other reproductions are not considered for Best in Show. However, all art hanging in the show is eligible for the People’s Choice award. The Best in Show will be awarded a free entry in the next Theme Show of the winner’s choosing.

Fee for SAA members: $10.00 per piece up to two pieces, non-members: $20.00 per piece up to two pieces. Pieces OVER 16” x 20” up to 22” x 26” INCLUDING FRAME will count as two for $20.00/$40.00. You may enter one oversize and one 16X20 or smaller. (Note: the Nov/Dec show has different specifications.)

Virtual Gallery Information

Sample Virtual Gallery

All association members are welcome to have a virtual gallery page for a fee of $10 per year, usually paid at the gallery with your annual membership, but can be added to your membership anytime. This is a great way to share information about you as an artist and the works you create.

To setup your gallery, first browse the artists’ virtual galleries to review the format used. Then just send an email to webmaster@seacoastartist.org with a short bio, contact information (share as much as you are comfortable with), a link to your own website if you have one, the media you work in, and favorite subjects. A portrait image of yourself or any other image can also be included inline with your biographical information. Attach up to a dozen JPEG images of your works (ideally 1000 px wide or less but the webmaster can resize if needed – see Publicity for image resizing tips)  – these will appear in a small gallery of images that visitors can view like a slideshow. If you include the titles of your works in your email, these will appear in captions under each image along with your name.

Members with existing virtual gallery pages are encouraged to send updated bio/contact information and fresh images periodically. If you would prefer to just have a link to your own website directly off our artist list, that can be done as well.
